CSA astronaut David Saint-Jacques explains how the Astroskin / Bio-Monitor Smart Shirt keeps an eye on astronauts’ vital signs.

This week, Canadian Space Agency astronaut David Saint-Jacques is finalizing the setup of the Bio-Monitor, on the International Space Station!

This advanced smart shirt & health platform is designed to measure and record vital signs in microgravity environment. It will help keep an eye on astronauts' health and enable medical research in space by continuously measuring physiological data.

The Canadian Space Agency's Bio-Monitor is designed to easily send information to the ground, where scientists can monitor astronauts' physiology around the clock as they orbit the planet. Once operational it will be available for the next five years to all participating countries to the International Space Station.

Fierce Pharma: Pharma has a real-world problem, and it's the lag in its sensor adoption

Adoption of mobile and connected health tech in clinical trials is a real-world challenge for pharmaceutical companies. Our CEO Pierre-Alexandre Fournier has shared his thoughts recently about the adoption of mobile and connected health tech with Fierce Pharma.

"The industry needs to get with it now or pay for it later—literally. The reason? Sensor tech will be adopted faster at a large scale in healthcare than in pharma trials, and that means “the drugs you are developing today are going to be seen with tools that you are not using in your trials right now.”  That could cost drugmakers billions of dollars if they launch products only to find that monitoring tech turns up real-world outcomes that don’t meet payers’ standards."

Hexoskin Presents Tools for Chronic Care at the AI in Healthcare Summit in San Francisco

Hexoskin is attending the AI in Healthcare Summit in San Francisco this week to present its connected health platform and healthcare AI architecture on Monday, June 26th.

The current hospital system has been built around the treatment of acute illness: emergencies, injuries, infections, etc. Chronic diseases are changing healthcare, and we are now entering a future in which care delivery is becoming decentralized, where communication between health professionals and patients is being facilitated by technology, leading to many potential advancements in prevention, treatment of chronic illness, and much more.

In his talk, Hexoskin's CEO Pierre-Alexandre Fournier discusses the specific tools enabling these advancements, what challenges exist in using health data for AI, and how healthcare professionals can leverage these new technologies to improve the quality of life for chronically ill patients.

Hexoskin, a non-invasive system, used to monitor sleep and save costs

As seen in the AARP document, The Longevity Economy – How People Over 50 are Driving Economic and Social Value in the U.S., ‘’early experiments also indicate that Hexoskin may facilitate remote monitoring/telehealth—in uses ranging from ambient assisted living (AAL) to sleep health (Banejee, T. et al., 2015) (…) This reduces both public and individual healthcare costs, and is minimally intrusive for patients.’’

Hexoskin is the only clinically validated system that continuously
records ECG with respiratory lung functions and daily/sleep activities. It is used more and more to assess sleep quality at home and in clinical studies. In fact, all the data recorded with Hexoskin are important to consider when it comes to wellness and longevity.

Sleep disorders can have a dramatic impact on a person's health. According to the American College of Cardiology, obstructive sleep apnea affects more than 12 millions American adults which most of the time aren't diagnosed. The relationship between sleep disorders and cardiovascular diseases is well documented.
