Vestechpro strengthens their expertise in wearable tech with a $70,000 new research grant

Montréal, June 4, 2014 - Vestechpro, a research & innovation centre for the apparel industry, has just obtained a grant for Phase 2 of the Hexoskin research project on the optimization of wearable technology.
The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded Vestechpro a $70,000 grant for an applied research project on the optimization of apparel with monitoring technology that continuously tracks the wearer’s vital signs. The grant was obtained in the context of the Innovation in Colleges and Communities (ICC) program, Applied Research and Development – Phase 2.
The project will take place over the course of 12 months in partnership with Carré Technologies, following Phase 1 of the project, which was devoted to the development of the wearable garment Hexoskin. Lucie Lapalme, who teaches in the Fashion Design program at Marie-Victorin College, will take part in the project as a Researcher/Teacher.
Hexoskin wearable tech garments have already been used by athletes in training for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, such as the Dufour-Lapointe sisters. Astroskin - a similar product developed in the course of same project - was also tested by 8 explorers on the Canadian Space Agency XPAntarctik mission, aiming to analyze how the human body adapts to extreme conditions.
Hexoskin is now available to the public in over 20 countries; allowing them to analyse the quality of their sleep, as well as monitor how lifestyle changes and engaging in amateur sports can affect their bodies.
